Dust Devil Classic 2007 Action Pistol Match recap.

The 4th Annual Dust Devil Classic United States Practical Shooting Association ( USPSA )  / International Practical Shooting Confederation ( IPSC) pistol match was held at Pima Pistol Club March 16-18, 2007. The event has grown every year since its inception in 2004. This years event drew 191 shooters from Arizona, California, Texas , New Mexico and Nevada. offering 8 different and challenging courses/stages of action shooting that saw over 42,000 rounds of ammunition being fired down range.

The match was the largest and most successful event held at Pima Pistol Club to date due to the unselfish efforts and countless hours donated by many clubs members, their wives, mothers, husbands, fathers, children , grandchildren. We are very proud and grateful of all of those who were involved. Final income and expenses have been completed; this years event netted $ 8453 for Pima Pistol Club. Given that , this event has netted approximately $ 22,000 of profit for Pima Pistol Club in 4 year history of Dust Devil Classic.

The event was sponsored by a number of local businesses and businesses throughout the country associated with the firearm industry that contributed to over $ 35,000 worth of donations consisting of everything from firearms to bottled water to the loan of golf carts. Our sincerest appreciation goes out to SMITH & WESSON, the match sponsor who contributed over $ 5000 worth of guns and gear. This year’s event as with previous Dust Devil Classic matches had a prefect safety record. This event required months of planning and organizing, numerous meetings and scheduling to ensure everything was in place and nothing was overlooked such as but not limited to : planning organizing and scheduling lunches for several hundred shooters, spectators and volunteers, porta potties, trophies, prizes, prize table organization, transportation, registration, bottled water, match books, score sheets, targets, FFL gun transfers, stage design, stage set up and tear down, trash pick up / removal, parking, security etc.. Much was done behind the scene with countless volunteers contributing countless hours and much was done by non shooters and non competing shooters...simply volunteering to help.

All of the Range Officers ( RO's ) and their helpers were truly great and we have received numerous e mails and phone calls complimenting the quality of the match, the quality of the prize table, the helpfulness of the RO's, the registration staff, the staff doing the stats and all of the volunteers.

In addition to those noted above I would also like to extend a special thanks to the following: Salim Dominguez, co-match director; Doc O'Hanlon, stage / match organizer; Mel Hockwitt, DDC 2007 Range Master; Jim Forshey, Awards, Gary Szczepanski, " T" shirts and target building and repair master, Jerry Murray & Robert Townsend for photographing / photo logging the event. AND a VERY SPECIAL THANKS to Debbie Ferns who was the main staff person largely responsible for acquiring so many donations and sponsors.

If you're interested in seeing the results of the match you can log on to http://www.uspsa2.org/  web site pulling up Pima Pistol Club match results.

Extra CD's of photographs may still be available for purchase by contacting either Salim Dominguez or me.

Again thanks to all who helped in so many ways...events of this nature are a win win situation for Pima Pistol Club and could not have been done without the dedication of all those involved.

Thanks!

Bob Molnar
Dust Devil Classic 2007 co-match director

Check out the new FUN activities on the PPC Games page. There is a full featured indoor target range game called Target Shooter where you can shoot several types of virtual weapons in a safe range environment.  (Don't forget to put on your hearing protection!)

There is also a demanding Tactical Range with pop-up badguy targets.  (Be careful not to shoot any hostages!)  Have FUN!
